Do we really need a large Sainsbury’s in Stoke Newington High St/Church St?
Are you concerned about the growing homogenisation of our high streets? Do you like the local shops in Stokie?
Public meeting – Wednesday 13 July • 7pm St Mary’s Church Community Centre, Defoe Road (Stoke Newington Church Street end)
There is a planning proposal to develop a large Sainsbury’s behind YumYum and the Wholefoods store in Wilmer place – the size of the Morrisons just up the road
The proposal would result in heavy traffic on Stoke Newington Church Street with delivery lorries entering the site in Wilmer place next to Wholefoods. It will also affect the conservation area with a number of Victorian shops being demolished on the High Street to give access to a 94 space Sainsbury’s car park
Many residents have concerns about the affect this will have on local shops and businesses, as it will mean current parking spaces are removed. This has the potential put our local community shops out of business.
If you are concerned about this and would like to know more then please come along to this public meeting. It has been called by Hackney Unites but the aim is to bring together all the different organisations and sections of the local community who are opposed to this development.
